In pursuit of dreams

Reaching for your dreams

What is the most important ingredient required on the journey to achieve your dreams?

Is it your connections to important people? Or your education and knowledge? What about your talents or exceptional work ethics?

On the quest to your dream, it is good to have all these in your arsenal. However, I doubt anyone can dispute the fact that the most important thing to have on this quest is to have life. To have any chance of attaining your ultimate glory, you must not die!

I know it sounds obvious, but looking around the world today, not many people take cognisance of this. To an alien looking in, it may even seem that we are intentionally sabotaging and putting our lives at risk on the journey to our dreams.

Otherwise, why would you sit at your desk for hours on end without standing and stretching? Why would you work, add overtime, but won’t take time off to rest and exercise? Why would you not have time to cook proper meals instead of always eating junk food? To unwind, you would rather consume alcohol with “friends.” Why would you sit in an unsafe public jalopy to get to work? Why? Why? Why?

The World Health Organisation says that Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, equivalent to 74% of all deaths globally. Tobacco use, physical inactivity, the harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diets and air pollution all increase the risk of dying from an NCD.

Bad habits and poor lifestyle choices puts your life at risk and consequently your dream in jeopardy. Why don’t you live longer, so you not only have a greater chance of achieving the dream but also a chance to savour and enjoy the sweet taste success?
